Gregg
Edelman (actor)
born in Chicago and graduated Northwestern
University.
Larry Ellison (CEO, software
programmer/businessman) After given up by his
19-year-old mother, he was raised by a
great-uncle and aunt in a two-bedroom apartment
on the South Side of Chicago. Learned computer
programming and rewarded science student of the
year at the University of Illinois, but dropped
out after his adoptive mother died. Enrolled at
the University of Chicago the following fall,
but dropped out after the first semester. Moved
to Berkeley, California and worked at various
jobs as technician and database programmer.
Worked for Ampex
(Ampex
Data Systems)
where he worked on a database for the CIA
(code-named 'Oracle') In 1977 Ellison was
inspired by a paper called "A Relational Model
of Data for Large Shared Data Banks" by IBM
employee E. F Codd*, involving Structured Query
Language (SQL). IBM did not develop SQL, but
Ellison did. Founded software consulting and
database firm with Robert Miner that developed
SQL and created a database program that worked
on mainframes and desktop computers. Doubled
sales of software yearly, including work sold to
CIA. Eventually became CEO of his founded
company Oracle
(with prior names of Software Development
Laboratories and Relational Technologies).
Fred Eychaner (media mogul,
fundraiser) Through his Newsweb Corporation, he
is owner of affiliates of the UPN network in
Chicago and Denver. Also owns several radio
stations in Chicago. Hosted an intimate
fundraiser/dinner in his home in May 2000. His
personal contributions exceeded the $850,000
raised at the event. Most of Eychaner
contributions have gone to candidates who
support gay rights.
