Arlington Heights Police Cars Sport New
Design
JUN 19 2005 -- Arlington Heights Police cars
have a new logo and color scheme. The new design
includes a modern horse and jockey in motion with a
trailing streamer and gold lettering on a white
car.
New Shopping Center Work Underway
JUN 18 2005 -- Work has begun to build a new
Lowes
near Algonquin Road and Golf Road. Demolition and
construction has also begun at Town
& Country Mall near Arlington Heights Road
and Palatine Road.
Vote to Downsize Vail Avenue Parking Garage
Plans
JUN 16 2005 -- The Arlington Heights Village
Board voted 7-1 (Helen Jensen only 'no') Monday to
delete the extension of the second floor over
Highland so that truck traffic could still proceed
through Highland Avenue under the parking garage
overhead. The third and fourth floor plans stay,
but 46 parking spaces will be lost, unless smaller
spaces are incorporated in the design.

School District 25 Accepts Resignations of Five
Teachers
MAY 26 2005 -- School Board President Daniel
Petro read a letter at Thursday night's meeting at
Windsor School that will be sent to students and
parents of South Middle School on Friday. Some
parents feel the teachers should not be used as
scapegoats while some parents feel the teachers
should resign or be fired -- zero tolerance.
"I think there was a misunderstanding in terms
of the policy," Ann Buch of the Arlington Heights
Teachers Association said.
Student Demonstration Supports Teachers at South
Middle School
MAY 25 2005 -- Students at South Middle School
demonstrated before school Tuesday and Wednesday
mornings to support teachers that are facing
possible dismissal for drinking (while off-duty)
during an overnight outing with students at Lorado
Taft Field Campus, near Oregon, Ill., about 90
miles west-southwest of Arlington Heights. The
demonstration Wednesday morning involved verbal
confrontations with opposing parents and at least
one board member. An Arlington Heights School
District 25 investigation of the Lorado Taft outing
is underway.
Slot Machines At Arlington Park?
MAY 20 2005 -- Slots at Arlington Park may be
part of Governor Rod Blagoyevich's plan to reduce a
$1 billion dollar budget deficit. The state
decision could overrule Arlington Heights local
government rulings. Developing ...
Timber Court Condos Approved
MAY 16 2005 -- Timber Court Condominiums near
Old Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road
were approved (6-3) at Monday Night's Arlington
Heights Village Board meeting. Farwell, Jensen,
Mulder, Rosenberg, Stengren, Toljanic approved.
Breyer, Hayes, and Kucera voted against the
project. Main issues raised against the project are
excessive and dangerous traffic congestion and
possible health hazards caused by the proximity of
the residences to a powerful radio tower.

Condos Proposed Near Highland and
Sigwalt
MAY 08 2005 -- Chestnut Courtyard, a 60-unit
condo project (Phase I, 4-story, 21 unit and Phase
II, 6-story, 39 units) is proposed by Mark Anderson
of Door Properties for the block along Sigwalt
between Chestnut and Highland Avenues. The proposal
is supported by the village plat and subdivision
committee of Plan Commission members.
Phase II of the condominium proposal depends
on the availability of land currently owned by SBC.
Phase I can stand on its own if SBC does not
sell property needed by Door Properties for Phase
II.
St. Viator Fieldhouse Opens
MAY 08 2005 -- The Boler Center at
St.
Viator High School
will have an open house on Saturday, May 21, at
3:00 p.m. No RSVP is required. The facility
includes basketball courts, an exercise room with
weight equipment, indoor track, showers, lockers
and more.

Re-development Plans Announced
MAY 07 2005 -- Ashley
Furniture
and Jo-Ann
Fabrics
plan to open before year end 2005 and
Dick's
Sporting Goods
plans to open before year end 2006. The stores have
signed leases with Town & Country Mall
owner Visconsi
Companies, Ltd.
Arlington Heights village trustees approved a
redevelopment agreement, which includes demolishing
the indoor mall and improving the facade.
Library Lobby Construction Underway
MAY 01 2005 -- Construction has begun to
replace the Arlington
Heights Memorial
Library
front stairs, build a cafe, renovate the facade,
and install a wheel-chair ramp, and an
ADA-compliant elevator. Also, the front landscape
design will be refreshed and the check-out area
will be reconfigured.
$12.5 Million Settlement for Rob Komosa
APR 21 2005 -- A $12.5 million settlement reached
for a former Rolling Meadows high school football
player, Rob
Komosa,
in a lawsuit filed in 1999 by Komosa's mother,
Barbara, against Northwest Suburban High School
District 214. Rob was 17 years old when he was
tackled and hit a steel fence post head-first
during football practice at Rolling Meadows High
School Oct. 7, 1999. His injuries paralyzed him
from the neck down. A $47 million lifetime sum
award has been reported by representatives of
Clifford
Law,
the law firm representiing Rob Komosa.
Rohrman Multi-Car Dealership at Old Honeywell
Site
APR 13 2005 -- Home Depot management office
personnel at the former Honeywell site are set to
move out by May. The Village of Arlington Heights
previously approved a sales tax sharing agreement
with the Bob Rohrman Nissan dealership for a new
site at Kennicott and Dundee roads. Speculation
exists that more auto brands will be available at
the old Honeywell site. Developing ...
New Construction Projects Underway
APR 09 2005 -- The former Svoboda's building
near Dunton and Campbell has been demolished to
make way for the Metro
Lofts Condominiums.
The Best Value Inn and the former Brown's Chicken
have been demolished to make way for a new
Walgreens and small retail strip mall at Northwest
Highway and Dryden. The Walgreens at Arlington
Market (Kensington and Dryden) will move to the new
location.
Mulder, Kucera, Farwell, Rosenberg, Breyer are
Election Winners
APR 06 2005 -- Mayor Arlene Mulder, without a
challenger, starts her fourth consecutive term.
Incumbents Virginia Kucera, Joseph Farwell and Bert
Rosenberg re-elected as village trustees Tuesday.
Former village trustee Norm Breyer returns as he is
elected village trustee once again.
District 25 Referendum Gets Voter
Approval
APR 06 2005 -- Voters approved a $5.5 million
increase in property tax, which translates to an
additional $125 per year in property taxes for a
$350,000 house in Arlington Heights. The additional
tax will be directed to pay the district's debts,
including the South and Thomas middle school
upgrades.
Singer Tom Andersen to Perform in Home Town
APR 05 2005 -- Singer Tom Andersen, 1978
graduate of Arlington High School, returns to his
home town to perform in concert Friday, April 22.
"Broadway and Beyond," featuring Broadway favorites
as well as pop standards and Tom's original work,
will begin at 7:30 PM at Forest View Educational
Center in Arlington Heights as part of the
25-year-old Friendship
Concert Series,
presented by District
214 Community
Education.
Tom's professional career has won him numerous
awards and critical acclaim. He has won five awards
from the Manhattan
Association of Cabarets and
Clubs
(MAC). Currently one of the most popular cabaret
singers in New York, Tom has shared the stage with
Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli and Michael Feinstein
and has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy
Center. Tom also has two CD's available on Amazon
'Far
Away Places'
and 'The
Journey.'
Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 at the door.

Meeting on Teardowns Set for April 20
APR 05 2005 -- The Arlington Heights Village
Board has arranged a Joint Meeting for 7:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 20, in the Council Room of Village
Hall with the Design Commission and the Ordinance
Review Committee of the Plan Commission regarding
teardowns houses and new construction. Public input
on the teardown issue can be submitted in advance
of the meeting via emails or letters. Input
received on the issue of teardowns will be shared
with all Board members for their review. See the
