DEC 30 2004 -- Basic up from $14.99 to $15.99 and
Standard up from $39.99 to $42.99. The new

rates are set to start in January 2005.
Village Agrees to Buy Metropolis
DEC 21 2004 -- Arlington Heights trustees approved
the purchase of the Metropolis
Theater
from Mark Anderson of Banbury Properties for $2.1
million in a 5-3 vote (Yes: Stengren, Jensen,
Daday, Farwell and Mulder; No: Rosenberg, Toljanic,
Kucera; Absent: Hayes) at the Village Board meeting
Monday. The not-for-profit Performing Arts at
Metropolis (PAM) headed by president Monica
Arena-McCarthy will pay a $225,000 deficit that
held up the negotiations.
Design Commission Calls for Condo Downsize Near
North School Park
DEC 15 2004 -- The Arlington Heights Design
Commission advised Gullo
International Development
Corp.
to downsize its plans for its St. James on the
Park seven-story condo project at Arlington
Heights Road and St. James Avenue. Look for a
scaled-back condominium building or row houses in a
new proposal scheduled for mid-January. Previous
plans by Hallmark Development were approved in
2000, but were never constructed.

New Fire Chief Ericksen, 31-Year Arlington
Heights Firefighter
DEC 04 2004 -- Glen Ericksen started as a
volunteer firefighter for Buffalo Grove Fire
Department and as a dispatcher in the old Fire
Station 2 at the former headquarters for the
Arlington Heights Fire Department. Now he is the
fourth Fire Chief for the Arlington Heights Fire
Department in a new Station 2 down the street. He
follows Harvey Carothers, John K. Hayden and Bruce
Rodewald.

Walgreens New Location Approved
NOV 18 2004 -- A 15,000-sq- ft Walgreens
with a 6000-sq-ft retail building will replace the
Brown's Chicken and Pasta and Best Value Inn at
Dryden and Northwest Highway. The new Walgreens
would replace the current Walgreens location in the
Arlington Market Shopping Center at Kensington and
Dryden.
Metropolis Will Not Be Sold to Arlington
Heights
NOV 12 2004 -- Owner Mark Anderson has
terminated negotiations with the Village of
Arlington Heights citing 'excessive payments'
requested by the village to eliminate the theater's
deficit. Concern has been raised publicly over
whether Mark Anderson is committed to the downtown
plan and to the Metropolis;
and whether that notion contributed to the failed
negotiations between the Village of Arlington
Heights and Mark Anderson.
Frank's Nursery is Going Out of Business
OCT 27 2004 -- Frank's
Nursery & Crafts,
Inc.
(FNCNQ.OB)
announced that it is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection on September 8, 2004. The Arlington
Heights store just west of Arlington Heights Road
and Rand Rd is conducting a "Going out of Business"
sale.
